The Río de la Plata forms the border between Uruguay and Argentina. The river is a combination of fresh and seawater where the Paraná river drains into the Atlantic Ocean. On the Uruguayan side lies the city of Colonia del Sacramento. Located directly across from Buenos Aires, Colonia serves as an important connection point for the two countries.
