Talking Parrot
Parrots are common pets and companions in Ecuador. Paquita, an Amazonian Parrot who is about 60 years old, lives in Biblian, a small mountain city. She loves engaging people in conversations and being in the spotlight. She lives with a family but she is free to roam and spends most of her time outside in the garden to greet visitors. Among her many tricks are laughing with people, whistling for attention and saying “Salud!” when someone sneezes. Here, she says “Lora Patoja” which literally means “waddling parrot”, but in Ecuador, people use it to call all parrots who can talk.
