The eastern side of the Hawaiian island of Maui is home to Kaihalulu Beach, one of the world’s rare red sand beaches. Meaning “roaring sea” in Hawaii’s native language, the sands of Kaihalulu Beach are given their deep red color by the iron-rich erosion from the nearby cinder hillside.
