The Common Loon is Minnesota’s state bird. These diving waterfowl can be identified by their rounded heads and dagger-shaped bills, but their most distinguishing feature is their unique call. The eerie cries of the loon echo across lakes throughout their vast habitat. This recording was captured from Spirit Lake in northern Minnesota.
