The Run for the Roses
Since 1875, the Kentucky Derby has been run on the first Saturday in May at the historic Churchill Downs track in Louisville. A graded stakes race for three-year-old Thoroughbred horses, it is the first leg of the US Triple Crown (which also includes the Preakness and Belmont Stakes). It is considered the most important horse race of the year and is often referred to as ‘The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports’.
