Ticino is the only canton (or province) in Switzerland where the official language is Italian. Swiss Italian presents some differences to the Italian spoken in Italy due to the presence of French and German from which it assimilates words. The area is home to many farms where cows graze freely, causing the ringing of their iconic cowbells.
